Frequently Asked Questions

Are you cables directional?  Meaning do I have to plug them in a certain to get maximum performance?  No, our cables are not directional.  I have spoken with metalergist about the process of extruding metal and its affects on electrical performance, the metal does not care.  Plug your Pro Cables N Sound cables in whatever direction is most convenient for you.

What is the difference between your 3 different instrument cables?  This is not a short answer.  At Pro Cables N Sound (PCNS) we have three different types of instrument cables for you to choose from.  The first obvious difference is the cost and that cost difference is laregely driven by the cost of the bulk cable to make these cables for you (the more copper a cable has the more it will naturally cost).

Here are the differences:  our Premiere IC00 4E6 is our original instrument cable.  Its made with Canare Star Quad mic cable.  It has a very natual, warm sound to it and is considered a High Capacitence cable measuring approx 70mf accross the conductors.  It has a very nice bottom end with an antenuation of the upper highs that gives you a warm signal, simular to the M#n$t*r Rock cables (except we have a much better jacket that is smaller in diameter and stronger).  This is a very good and a very nice upgrade from any economy cable.  My only complaint about this cable is that on stage if you toss around it around you will hear some handling noise.  This cable will help warm up a brassy sounding strat or tele in a very nice way!

our Premiere IC00 GS cables are made with Canare GS6 instrument cable.  This is a highly regarded heavy gauge instrument cable and is a favorite amongst many many players.  The GS6 has a much higher range to it than the 4E6 cable.  The top end is bright and crisp and really helps bass players keep out of the mud!  This cable is a considered a Low Capicitence cable and measures at approx 40mf across the conductors.  There is a very audible difference in the high end between the 4E6 and the GS6.  Nice top end and still has good bottom end charicterstics.  My only complaint about this cable is that, depending on the instrument, the top end can be a bit harsh, much like the George L cables (exept the GS6 is 1000 times more flexible).  Excellent bass guitar cable because a little brightness on the top end typically will help a bass cut through the mix a little better.

our Patriot SX instrument is our latest offering.  Its made with a double braided sheild coax cable.  The Patriot SX is also considered a low Capcitence cable and measures at approx 25mf.  The Patriot SX is really the best of both of our other cables and then some!  The highs on this cable are crisp, sweet and smooth and the bottom end in warm and tight.  Balance from top to bottom on this cable is very evident without any sharp spikes.  The high end is amazing because its bright and articulate but not piercing.  Great chime and excellent punch.  String to string articulation is awesome, chord clarity is amazing and over all performance is excellent.  This exact cable is what Dr Z amps uses in their quality control room to tune and inspect each amp before it leaves their shop.  Well balanced, durable, articulate best describe this cable.

Why do your snakes cost so much more than the ones at other online stores?
The short answer is not all snakes are created equal.  Typically, my wholecost for snake cable, just the cable, is more than you can buy a low cost snake for.  Here is why . . . . . . .

The cable itself, most economy snakes are build with foil shielding, its works great but is fragile.  After a short period of time, crackles in the system show up and other odd sounding things because of the shielding shorting.  Our standard cable also uses a foill shield buts it constructed differently.  On an economy snake there are three wires (makes one channel) and they are wrapped up in a thin piece of shielding.  On our snakes, each channel has its own jacket around it so its like a mini mic cable.  In between that jacket and the wires is the same foil sheild but it is pressure extruded to the jacket so it has some structure to it and it won't crack or break.  Also this extra jacket and sheild construction provide you with a snake with no channel cross talk.  Each channel is fully seperated from each other, nothing touches causing grouding problems, scratchy sounds or other odd things.  Just for certainly, there is an overall sheild on the cable as well creating a very nice quiet snake cable.

The jacket on our snakes is very tough.  I bought a H??!!??n snake a few years ago for my band and after the first use the outer jacket up by the stage box had split.  First time out of the box!  I was really bummed.

Our snakes also use 24 gauge cables were most economy snakes are a much smaller 26 gauge, this adds to your sound quality.  You can even ask for an upgrade to 22 gauge!!

Our snakes are made in the United states, including the cable, by professionals in a build shop, not in china, in a sweat shop.  That said, there are some excellent vendors from China.  We have some of our products built for us over there but it is by people we know and trust and have proven track records for quality and durability.

Alot of our economy competitors use solder free terminals in their snakes.  It makes assembly very fast but over time you end up with oxidation in your connections giving your cracking, hums, shorts and other odd things that are very difficult to find.

Muffled sounding vocals no matter what I do.  Bass and guitar are too loud even though they are turned down: You may be hearing the monitors very loud.  Because the are facing away from you they will sound muffled.  Monitors are nice to have and essential for large or loud bands.  But if your in a small setting  or a low ceiling area they will create problems.  As the band gets going things get loud onstage.  The guitar player needs more bass and vocals (vox), the vocalists need more of everything and pretty soon the stage noise is louder than the front of house (FOH).  Instead of  bringing up levels in monitors and FOH, try bringing other things down or out. This will help you maintain a decent sound level without having it escalate throughout the performance. When you bring UP something you couldn’t hear instead of bringing other channels down you create a competition for sound instead of a smooth blend of music. mailto:[email protected]?subject=FAQ

Why do your cables cost so much/little?  Depending on who you talk too we are either too expensive or too cheap.  The easy one to start with is the "why are we so inexpensive?".  If you have ever purchased professional grade cables before you know how expensive they can be.  You can expect to pay $75 to $125 for a typical 50 foot speaker cable and don't even start with snake prices!  Ouch!  We build the same quality cables that the expensive places do.  We use the same parts, same grade if not better cable and detail our cables like a professional would want them to be.  The cost difference is we are a small company that has very little overhead.  This helps us keep our expensive cables inexpensive.  Better yet, not only are we cost competitive we also make your cables just for "YOU".

Why are we so expensive?  If you compare us to companies that manufacture overseas using inferior cable and connectors we will never be able match the prices they offer.  If you compare us to companies that mass produce and use molded end connectors we will never be able to match the prices they offer either.  You get what you pay for, every time!  We build excellent cables at a very fair price.  We only use components that you would find in our gig boxes so we know they work great and will last you a long time.  What is that price worth?  Remember, your cables never fail while they are in the box.  They only fail when you need them and that is typically in front of an audience or client.  Priceless.  mailto:[email protected]?subject=FAQ
